The earth tears there where life becomes death
When one mountain gives birth to another
It first has to die
And only whilst giving birth is also their own body reborn

The Dewa Sanzan Mountains (Yamagata Prefecture, Northern Japan) – for over a thousands years people have come to these three mountains to undergo a pilgrimage of Birth, Death and Rebirth. Inspired by the mythological, religious, cultural and geological stories of these mountains we (Halima, Paula and Relle) embarked on our own pilgrimage – investigating how different landscapes hold different versions of ourselves and how we can embody different perspectives related to landscapes.
